Victorian Adjustable Wine Table

Before

These brass & cast iron wine tables look wonderful when looked after, this sadly had not been.

The top was badly marked with a stain in the centre and the grain had opened up.

The brass column was severely tarnished, the cast base was covered in surface rust and was missing its casters.

After

The top was removed, stripped and grain filler applied. It was then re-stained and French polished.

A soft copper brush followed by wire wool was used to gently remove all rust from the base then stove polish was applied.

The column was cleaned with 00 grade wire wool then polished.

Replacement casters where sourced then it was re-assembled.

Owners comments

"I cannot believe it is the same table, thank you so much"

George III Mahogany Chest of Drawers

Before

This lovely mahogany early 18th century chest of drawers was in a very sorry state indeed.

The top was very badly split , the crossbanding was severely damaged in many places and the entire carcass filthy.

None of the drawers fitted correctly and the brass handles were black.

After

Firstly the entire piece was cleaned whilst ensuring that the patina was retained.

We repaired the split to the top then set about replacing the damaged crossbanding.

Adjustments where then made to the drawers, the runners and the stops.

All repairs where then blended in and finally the entire piece was French polished.

As you can see the result is a chest of drawers that still retains its patina but now has been brought back to its former glory.

Victorian Mahogany Glazed Bookcase

Before

This delightful glazed bookcase was black with old polish and dirt.

The lock was missing and the handle had been replaced by an unsightly wooden bar.

In addition the glass was cracked and some moulding was missing.

After

The first step was obviously to undertake a thorough cleaning which revealed a deep red mahogany finish and also, unfortunately, damage to the wood.

However, the repair was quite simple and once colour matched and stained it was virtually undetectable.

We re-produced the moulding that was missing and again colour matched it.

Replaced the lock, escutcheon and handle with a period reproduction and then fitted the new glass.

Finally the entire piece was French Polished to a mid sheen as desired by the client.

Owners comment

"A very nice sympathetic restoration...it looks better then I had hoped, thanks."
